At my 26 week appointment the day before Thanksgiving, Reese did nothing out of the ordinary as she moved and wiggled the whole time the nurse tried to get her heart rate. It finally registered and then she pulled out a tape measure! YAY! My first belly measurement! I was only coming in at 23 centimeters, but the nurse said I'd eventually catch up, as you are supposed to measure the same number of centimeters as you are weeks pregnant. I read later that a smaller measurement may be due to strong abdominal muscles (YEAH BUDDY!) or even the fact that baby may be laying transverse, causing my bump to be wider hip to hip than belly button to back. I do have a pretty wide bump, but I know she's not transverse because I feel hiccups in my pubic bone and feet in my ribs.
Yesterday I had a 28-week ultrasound which brought on deja vu for John and I as Reese showed her personality again! That little booger loves to hide her face! She's resting her head deep in my pelvis the doctor said, and just like the 20-week ultrasound, she's facing my back. Both the ulltrasound tech and the doctor prodded her and forced me to toss and turn to get her to move, but to no avail. When the doctor got her to start rolling a little, we saw the sweetest cheek profile, but her hands were up over her face and she kept them there. I have a feeling this is how she will sleep. She also kicked the doppler as the tech tried to look at her heart! She's such a stinker! Also, since I have been feeling very strong movement all the time in my lower right belly, I asked the tech to take a look and see what she saw there. We saw the cutest little foot kicking away, wiggling her tiny tiny toes! I am just so in love. =) We did see some long, skinny legs, and all of her vital organs look great!
After my ultrasound I had a checkup with my doctor who I hadn't seen since 13 weeks! This guy seems to always be on call and delivering other babies when I have an appointment with him, so I often see his nurse practitioner. This week I measured right on the nose at 28 cm, and I've currently gained about 25 pounds. I'm getting excited for the holidays so I can see my family and friends back in Indy, and my baby shower is at the end of this month! It's all just flying by! I feel a little lonely here in Ohio sometimes, but I have such a great support system back at home who is always there for me and I don't know what I'd do without them! My sweet friend Dawn called and left me a voicemail last week that brought me to tears. I'm so thankful to have her!!
At 27 weeks I had a really bad cough which reminded me of the worst bronchitis I had about 6 or 7 years ago, along with nasty, painful sinus congestion. I spent a weekend in bed with the vaporizer. Luckily the Z-pack was safe for me, but unfortunately there was nothing else I could really take to suppress the cough. I tried to keep my Tylenol intake at a minimum, even though I know it's ok to take it if I need it, but I was in some serious pain. I still have a residual cough and a little congestion in my sinuses, but I'm feeling much better!
Also, it's back to Exhaustion City for me as I feel like I could often fall asleep at work (especially on my busy, long Wednesdays) and I'm going to have to start pulling back in some of my classes at TLG. The plan was to tumble, jump, and spot all the way until I delivered but I've never been pregnant before and Reese wanted to show me that my plans didn't matter-- it was all up to her! ;o) I can barely bend to tie my shoes at this point and I've pretty much given up on a good leg shave so I have a feeling it won't be much longer until I have to give up teaching my classes! Along with the exhaustion comes discomfort... making me even more tired because I'm finding it hard to find a comfortable position in bed. My body pillow helps, but Reese always has something to say about a certain way I'm laying with kicks, nudges, somersaults and hiccups.
All the bad, however, will never outweigh the good. I can't wait to meet this little princess who is already bursting with personality!
27 weeks! Merry Christmas and Go Colts!!
